Office upgrade
After quite enough time at our old cramped offices on Victoria Ave in Westmount, Backtrack finally moved, along with the rest of the Tandem Crew, to a big beautiful new space in St. Henri. We’re now located at 780 Brewster Ave., in a converted loft building that used to make biscuits a century ago. As it turns out, it wasn’t too difficult it to convert it into a tech startup factory.
The move turned out to be very well-timed, now that Kayhan and Clara have joined the team and Alan will be coming on board shortly. We’re not the only TandemLaunch company that’s growing: Algolux brought in a CEO and has been filling out their team, SportLogIQ (Craig Buntin’s video analytics venture) is flying high, Fabule has now moved in after their successful kickstarter, Wrynch is getting off the ground, and we have a brand new batch of Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Technologist-in-Residence recruits joining us soon.

Another great feature of the new office is the lab. Although it isn’t completely set up yet, upon completion we’ll have a big fancy lab to do prototyping and other hardware related things. We imagine we’ll be sharing a lot with Fabule, so thankfully there’s lots of space to go around.

The lab will be the domain of Matt Smith, the new TandemLaunch COO, who brings a lot of experience and a healthy sense of humour to the TL operation. Matt has jumped into the front running in the office as ‘best candidate for bribery with small items’, as he’ll be making sure things run smoothly on a day to day basis, so we’d better stay on his good side. So far, Backtrack’s contribution to the Matt Fund has been one T-shirt from Uncommon Grounds.
If you feel like paying us a visit, just let us know! For the next few months, there’s a good chance we’ll be working somewhere outside nearby, like the park across the street or the nearby Lachine canal.
